Why I Love Thanksgiving—And What It Teaches Us About Financial Planning

November 19, 2025

For me, Thanksgiving has always been about family. It’s a time to slow down, reconnect, and reflect on what truly matters.

As a financial advisor, I spend much of the year helping clients navigate markets, plan for retirement, and make strategic decisions. But Thanksgiving reminds me that behind every financial goal is something deeper: a desire to care for loved ones, create stability, and build a life filled with meaning.

The Heart of the Holiday

The history of Thanksgiving is rooted in resilience and gratitude. After a difficult year, the Pilgrims and Wampanoag people came together to share a harvest and give thanks. That spirit—of community, preparation, and hope—still resonates today.

But for me, it’s the family moments that define the holiday. Whether it’s a quiet dinner or a house full of laughter, Thanksgiving is a reminder that true wealth isn’t measured in numbers—it’s found in relationships, health, and peace of mind.

Financial Planning with Family in Mind

When I sit down with clients, I often ask: What does financial success look like to you? The answers almost always point back to family:

  • Providing for children or grandchildren
  • Supporting aging parents
  • Creating a legacy that lasts
  • Ensuring loved ones are protected, no matter what

These goals shape how we build portfolios, structure retirement income, and plan for the future. They’re the “why” behind the numbers.

Lessons from the Thanksgiving Table

Believe it or not, the Thanksgiving table offers some great financial wisdom:

  • Plan ahead: Just like a great meal, a strong financial future takes preparation.
  • Balance matters: A well-rounded portfolio—like a well-rounded plate—helps avoid overindulgence or regret.
  • Leave room for leftovers: Emergency funds and flexible strategies help us handle life’s surprises.

Thank You for Being Part of My Professional Family

This season, I’m especially grateful for the trust you place in me. It’s a privilege to walk alongside you—not just as an advisor, but as someone who understands that behind every financial decision is a family story.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful, restful, and meaningful Thanksgiving.
